Microsoft gets into intelligence

MICROSOFT IS breaking into the business intelligence market with a new product code-named Maestro.
The new software, which won’t even be at beta stage until September at the earliest, positions Microsoft up against tradition business intelligence players like Business Objects, Cognos and Hyperion. Microsoft has already dipped its toes into the market with give-away products like Reporting Services for SQL Server and Business Scorecard Accelerator, but Maestro will be licensed like any normal business application. Pricing details have not so far been forthcoming.
Microsoft says Maestro will handle data from a range of other business software products including SAP, Oracle and Siebel.
The vendor says it sees business intelligence software as a $3bn to $4bn a year market.
